LED lash extensions: what they are, what to charge and how to introduce them

Sep 16, 2026

LED lash extensions are quickly becoming the biggest shift in the lash industry, and if you offer lashes in your beauty business, they're worth a serious look.

Here's what they actually are, how they can solve the retention problems that plague team-led salons, and how to bring them onto your menu at a higher price without your clients batting an eyelid.

What are LED lash extensions?

LED lashes look exactly the same as regular lash extensions. The difference is the adhesive. Traditional lash glue cures through air and moisture, which makes you completely reliant on the humidity and temperature in your salon space. Get those conditions wrong and your retention suffers, no matter how good the application is.

LED adhesive cures instantly under a small LED light. The moment you're happy with placement, you cure it, and the bond is done. No waiting hours for the glue to fully cure, and no worrying about what your client does in the first 24 hours.

Why retention improves so dramatically

Retention has always been the variable in lash extensions. Experienced artists have fewer problems, newer artists have more. In a team-led salon with mixed experience levels, that means some clients come back for refills with barely anything left to work with.

LED removes that variable almost entirely. Because the bond is cured on the spot, a newer team member's work lasts as well as a senior artist's. Clients keep more lashes between appointments, fans stay open on handmade volume, and refills stop being a race to rebuild a set from scratch.

One thing to be clear on: LED lashes are not allergy free. The base ingredient is still cyanoacrylate, the same ingredient people react to in traditional adhesive. They are gentler for clients who experience irritation, because the glue cures seconds after application and the vapours don't build up around the lash line. But never market them as safe for clients with a genuine adhesive allergy.

What equipment do you need?

There are two main options: large gooseneck floor lamps and tweezer lights. The big lamps spread light across the whole eye area, which means black eye patches for your client, blue light glasses for you, and working one eye at a time.

Tweezer lights are a tiny LED lamp that slides onto your tweezer, and either operated by a foot pedal or by a sensor/button on the tweezer itself. The beam is so small and concentrated that you can skip the black eye patches and glasses, work eye to eye as normal, and move faster. For most lash artists, tweezer lights are the way to go.

Whatever you buy, make sure you purchase from a reputable supplier who can show you safety certificates and approvals. LED light has a safe wavelength range, and cheap lamps off AliExpress or Alibaba can sit outside it. Also check that your adhesive is designed to cure with your specific device, because different adhesives respond to different wavelengths.

How to price and introduce LED lashes

Charge LED as a completely separate service, not an add-on. A separate menu item with its own price draws far less attention than a visible upgrade fee. Around $20 to $30 above your standard refill price is the going rate, and clients pay it happily because their lashes last longer and they can push refills out from two weeks to three or more.

If you're worried your clients won't want to pay more, let them experience it first. Offer LED at the normal price to your regulars, no announcement, no menu change. After two or three refills they'll feel the difference in retention, and when you formally introduce the higher price, they won't want to go back.

The result is a better profit margin, shorter duration full sets, and a higher average client spend, all with minimal investment in training and equipment.

LED has been one of the best menu additions I've ever made, and it's a genuinely complementary service rather than a distraction from your niche.
